HELLO, MY NAME IS

Caitlin Olson

Hip Hop/Musical Theater/Tap/Choreographer/Company

Caitlin has been dancing since the age of 4. Growing up in Northern Virginia, she
studied at various dance studios in Woodbridge, Stafford, and Springfield in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, musical theater, contemporary, acro, and pointe. She joined the competition and convention circuit at the age of 12 and earned scholarships from New York City Dance Alliance & Co. Dance. Later, Caitlin attended George Mason University, graduating as a Global Affairs major with a concentration in World Arts. During college, Caitlin was also a member of the NBA’s Washington Wizards dance team and was selected from the team to attend the All-Pro choreography convention. Simultaneously, Caitlin was invited to join the Gye Nyame African Cultural Dance Ensemble and became certified as a Kukuwa Dance Workout instructor.

After college, Caitlin moved to New York City to continue pursuing a life in dance, studying intensely in tap, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, and hip hop under industry leaders such as Sheila Barker, Lizz Picini, Jim Cooney and Jamie Jackson. Caitlin enjoyed various performing opportunities such as working on the set of NBC’s musical television show, Smash; performing on Good Morning America, dancing in an international media tour with Latin pop artist Jason Cerda, and shooting a prime time TV commercial under the dance direction of Maksim Chmerkovskiy. In New York, Caitlin also began to incorporate improv and sketch comedy through classes with the Peoples Improv Theatre (PIT) and performed vocally throughout the tri-state area with musical ensemble The SymphoNYChorus.

During a two-year period living in Birmingham, Alabama, Caitlin taught ages 2 through 18 at The Dance Foundation and created a brand-new adult dance community: Intercity Dance Collective, LLC. IDC hosts pop-up & drop-in classes in various styles for adult dancers of all levels, and is still a thriving community in the hands of new ownership. In Birmingham, Caitlin also had the pleasure of teaching Broadway Bootcamp and choreographing for the Tony award-winning Red Mountain Theatre Company in shows such as 13 the Musical, Mamma Mia!, Beauty and the Beast, and the annual Holiday Spectacular.

Returning home to Virginia, Caitlin is excited to remain a student for life, but also to share her knowledge and absolute passion for all the world’s dance forms with a new generation of artists. Her focus is on a healthy, safe, and functional body, as well as a strong mind-body connection during any type of class or performance.
